Mohammad Asif in Dubai Jail

Mohammad Asif was arrested at the Dubai airport on Sunday on the suspicion of possessing drugs.

We still don't know what drugs he was carrying, nor do we know whether the suspicion has been confirmed or not.

Whats intriguing though is that such a high profile arrest by the Dubai Police was swept under the covers for 2 whole days.

News is that the PCB will be making a statement on it this afternoon. But where were they for the last 48 hours?

Trying to get Asif out of jail?

Most probably.

For those who do not know, Dubai and the UAE is very strict on drugs.

Possession of even the slightest quantities of dope, heroin, coke, marijuana, etc could get one into jail for 4 years. Whether you are a tourist, transit visitor, or a resident, it doesn't matter.

Dealing in drugs gets one into jail for upto 13 years with the maximum sentence being the death penalty.

However, in the past there have been cases where high profile celebrities caught with drugs in Dubai have been released by the authorities. Vijay Raaz, DJ Aqeel are recent cases.

We will keep you updated on this story.

For Asif and Pakistan's sake, lets hope it was an unfounded suspicion. And if it wasn't, lts hope it wasn't a drug on WADA's control list.

The latest news is he was brought before a magistrate where he admitted possession of drugs. Still unclear on what the drug was.

    Damn shame.

Whats funny is that even Asif claims he doesn't know what it is.

Haha..he said he had been carrying it in his wallet for a long time..

A PCB reports states it was given by a local doctor.

The question is is it an Indian local doctor or a Pakistan local doctor.

I think they have struck a deal already and this is the escape route.

Where did u read that Ottayan?

I think the deal was struck well before it was reported.

There were 48 hrs between him getting caught and the reports coming out...
