Match Fixing in the IPL
Lalit Modi has called for an investigation into the match played between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Someone has brought to Modi's attention that the match might have been fixed, while the BCC! has brought to my attention that the match might have been fixed.
The amusing thing is that the reason explained in this article, for the match being potentially fixed, is that Brad Hodge was not playing and was sitting in one of the hospitality boxes.
What connection exactly does sitting in a hospitality box and match fixing have?
And while they're at it, i.e. investigating match fixing in the IPL, maybe they should pay some attention to last night's match as well - the one that Deccan Chargers lost to the Delhi Daredevils.
Well if scoring 52 runs of the final 4 overs to win a match cannot be achieved without some match fixing, then how can 7 wickets for 12 runs be?
And why stop there?
Investigate today's match as well.
Because it looked like some players of the Royal Challengers Bangalore had fixed the match and wanted to lose it.
While some of them pulled a Rashid Latif and snatched a victory from the Chennai Super Kings.
Go on, give the ACU, or whoever the anti-corruption lot are at the IPL, something to do.

Serious?
Is this serious??????
But yesterday's match did look like being fixed........

Sam and Chris: I was just being sarcastic in my post :-) Im not serious but was surprised that this was being investigated.
But Homer has burst the bubble.
I don't know whether any IPL matches (or the run totals for any given over, or any of the other things that can be bet on in the competition) have been fixed, but the competition's structure is creating a situation where corruption could flourish if players were so inclined.
AP: I saw Miandad's comments. Anything he says has to be taken with a pinch of salt. As you say, I also believe that match fixing is possible in the shortest version of the game, even more so in the IPL and ICL where the ICC sleuths are not employed.
But I dont agree with the assertion regarding the possibility of fixing games in 59-match tournaments due to "dead" game.. cos even though the IPL is that long, none of the teams can still afford to have dead games even at the fag end of group matches.
Q: Good point about the lack of ICC involvement, the recently-created Twenty20 competitions which are popping up across the world are frequently not as well regulated as they might be.
I hope, for everyone's sake, that no matches are being fixed, but it's very difficult to identify what counts as 'unusual' in a format which is so extraordinary to start with,
AP: I agree abt the extraordinary.. T20 games tend to be more closer than any other form of cricket.. this is apparent from the proportion of the number of ties there have been in T20 matches.. I think it has something to do with how teams are closely matched in a shorter form of the game.. such close matches create the notion of match fixing, which may just be that - a notion..
Having said that, the presence of the ICC ACSU is a must I feel..
those who watched yesterdays match between punjab and hyderabad were shocked at what happened on the last delivery
with 4 runs to win harris hit the last ball to square leg boundary, where bret lee misfielded and there was easily a possibility of atleast 3 runs. But to everyones shock harris gave up after 2 runs when the non striker had almost reached the end where harris was...
well, one can explain this as an instance of foolishness on the part of harris, but what makes the whole thing fishy is the fact that the commentators chose to completely ignore the happenings of the last ball...
we just cant dismiss rajastan cheif ministers recent statement that lalit modi is a 'serial match fixer'.
Anonymous: I noticed that and also wondered why the hell didnt Harris attempt that run.. either way i think shoaib would have been run out at the striker's end but Harris should have obviously tried..
And yes, another commentator blunder!
we can argue that it was a moment of foolishness on part of harris to not attempt the third run, but what defy s ones coomon sense is that the TV commentators seemed to have failed to notice this 'foolishness'.
Anon: The commentators have missed a lot of things in the IPL.. been too busy drinking!
You are outta ur mind :(. Publicity stunts!!!
Anon: I'm not the one claiming match fixing :-)
Yes i too agree with all of your comments. After 10 years once again this erotic match fixing was brought back into the Cricket history. This will really going to lose many of them cricket career....
We the spectator should think and smash this activities before World Cup 2011.
Gopivista: Welcome to Well Pitched and thank u for your comments.. everything here is mere speculation.. no one can do anything unless anything can be proved.
I agree with you, IPL is beyond match fixing guys. IPL board are fixing the match results and bringing out the maximum entertainment. Please be aware!!!
