Ricky is Shit ?

"I thought Ricky Ponting was crap when he was first captain in 2004 and nothing much has improved since then. I'm not the only one who thinks that ...everyone at home thinks he's shit at the captaincy"

Talk about being upright and honest!

What a time for Jeff Thomson to say something like that.

Well he's a shit captain alright.

But do you really want to say that days away from an Ashes campaign?

Shouldn't Thomson and the rest of the Aussies be trying to give their captain some confidence?

Make your pitch on this post...

I was less than a metre from him when he said that. True story.

Ian Chappel din't hold anything back when giving his opinion on Steve Waugh at all times - as player and captain, despite his record. Though I cannot recall anything so dramatic on the eve of an important series.

I guess that's the way it works in the Aussie cricket culture, and Thommo was known for his diplomatic skills anyway...

Although Thompson just stated the obvious, the timing was really bad. How can you do that to your own country cricket team, putting them under pressure just before one of the most important test series Australia is going to play.

This reminds me of Bishen Singh Bedi - Each and every time India is about to play an important series - 3 or 4 days before the first test he will say India has no chance and go on to really criticize some members of the team. Really sucks.

    Late,

I never understood why Chappell didn't think much of Waugh..

    SP,

Will he get fired up? Or will he just sulk?

    Rayden,

I don't mind criticism, but if its done publicly it should be done in a way that it doesn't harm the person / team...

As if we did not know. I remember an adamant Sourav Ganguly refusing to rate Punter the skipper, saying he would assess only after the Warnes and McGraths retire. Here you are.

I am not sure why Ricky should care. I think every player should look at what he has to do and ignore unhelpful criticism. If someone has useful suggestions, they should see what they can do.

But people say all sorts of things for all kinds of reasons, good and bad. And you cannot pay attention to them. You just have to filter out the unwanted stuff.

It is a different point whether Ricky is a good captain or not. But frankly, if he thinks he is a good captain, he should ignore this. Just lead Australia to victory and shut up Jeff Thomson and others.

    Som,

I agree with the assessment.. Ganguly wasn't the only one who said that.. many others have said the same thing..

I'm just a but perplexed at the timing of the comment..

    Krish,

Now that is what a logical person would do... cricketers largely tend to take notice of such statement and even respond to them.. most of them..
