Hot, Not, Needs a Rethought....so far at the CT 2009

So after each major tournament, I like to come up with a list of things that are hot, not, and need a rethought. Here's my list so far for the Champions Trophy.

Hot: ODI Cricket; Pakistan's bowling; South Africa as a host country for any cricket event;

Not: Indian team spirit; World Cup format; South Africa as a host team;

Needs a Rethought: Strategy for taking batting powerplay; Mohammad Aamer's haircut; that horrible sounding bugle;

More to come after the tournament is over!

Make your pitch on this post...

    What's wrong with Mohammad Aamer's hair? He's still a baby, he has plenty of time to look cool later.

    Agreed on powerplay bit tho..

    lol. lol. Indian team spirit is not. I could laugh at it mate.

    Thats far better than Pakistan mate.

    Nobody there beats anybody with a bat or none has ego troubles :)

    Chill mate.

    @Anon: Indian team spirit is definitely not as hot as it used to be. Remember T20 WC 2007? And even WC 2003? The team huddles, the sharpness in the field, etc. The entire attitude seemed different.

    Right now India doesn't seem fully there. Between T20 this year and the CT, India have looked a totally different side. They're missing some pep.

    BTW, not sure why every Indian seems to take a comment about India so sensitively, and automatically compare that to Pakistan. If you see the Pakistan bashing that we do ourselves, you would realize that we are not blindly obsessed with Pak. I think Indian fans need to check in with reality every now and again - the team is not divine or infallible.

    Maybe all Indian fans need to take Gary Kirsten's advice. Would do you all some good.

    Jeez!

    @Rauf: OK, the cheers are not bad, but the bugle itself!!! UGH!!!! It sounds so out of tune!

    @Husha: I dunno, I think he could do a better job. That bowl cut is so five cricketing years ago! :)

    The bowling makes up for it.

    Ryder's tash. He wouldn't have got injured if he has shaved that bloody thing off. Ugh, so fat British cop from a 70's TV show.

    Or David Boon, take your pick.

    @Husha: Agreed!!!

    Anyone remember Wasim Akram's hairdo when he started his career? So Mohammad Amer's isn't that bad after all :)

    Something to add to the "Needs to be Rethought" list: South Africans singing non-English national anthems.

    @Sledge - Hey mate, Not EVERY Indian fan takes all the comments negatively. Trust me, out here we do massive India bashing all the time. Of course some people will take anything a bit too seriously and post comments like Anon but I can assure you a lot of Indians exactly know the teams calibre and worth.

    As for team spirit, I think right now the morale is down more than anything. They just dont seem to think they will win the big games. I dont know if the super weak bowling is weighing on their minds or its something else. Even Dhoni (supposedly captain cool) looks totally jaded and out of it !!

    On another note - Man that youngster Mohammad Aamer can bat!! What a find for Pak. NZ looked totally down at the end of the Pak innings even though Pak was 199 for 9 at one time. Going to be a close game.

    @Rayden: You're absolutely right! Thanks for steering me toward common sense.

    Apologies for making such a broad and unfair generalization.

    So then; Sledge, Q etc.

    Looks like the semi-final is under match-fixing investigation.

    All becasue of Younis dropping Elliot.

    Imagine if England games came under scrutiny for dropped catches...

  20. SledgeHammer said...

    @Leg Break: That's pretty bad in all ways, even just the investigation. It spoils the win, it takes cricket back a decade, and it weakens the interest level.

    Drop catches happen. What about Gibbs against Australia in the 1999 World Cup?

    Sigh, another day, another controversy.

    The more I think about it the more that annoys me.

    As you say, takes gloss off the performance of my battlers ; as well as the stereotypical smear on Pakistan.

    What have we got here? Shit-stirrers on the fringes of the PCB with willing allies in the ICC helped along by a bit of racism and xenophobia.

    NZ beat Pakistan against the odds. Given they’re the most unpredictable sides going around that’s mathematically quite likely.

    I think the umpiring system could always use a rethought.

  23. SledgeHammer said...

    @Husha: Good one, umpiring/referrals will make my final list.

  24. Rayden said...

    @Sledge - Hey its all good. I could sense the same frustration i go through sometimes when idiots come and put up these stupid comments from both sides on various forums/blogs.

    Regarding the match fixing claim - com'on - not again. I really hope these claims were not made by ex-cricketers trying to get some attention again.
