New Poll - Who should be Pakistan's Vice Captain

Its time for a new poll... who should be Pakistan's vice captain. We got a great response on the last poll, with the majority of people saying that Dhoni should also be India's Test captain.

I think Pakistan should have 2 different vice captains - 1 for the ODIs and T20 and the other for tests. For ODIs it should be Shahid Afridi definitely...I just love the way the man is on top of the game in the field - bowling like a champion and keeping the spirits up of everyone.

For tests its a more difficult one. I don't want Younis cause he will never be captain, and if u read my previous blog about that you'll see that I prefer the VC to be someone who is a captain in grooming. But apart from him, there doesn't seem to be anyone.

I would have been bold and announced made Mohammad Asif the VC for tests.

i can't believe that afridi is even being considered a choice for vice-captain. do we honestly feel that he has the mental capacity to think tactics realtime.

Imran - If you've seen Afridi in the field, then you can see that he thinks tactics real time. He is constantly in Malik's ear, the bowler's ear and the opposing batsman's face.

His batting should not be a benchmark for judging how he thinks on the field. He out thought Kallis twice in the previous series - and Kallis is one of the best. He's undone a number of leading batsmen in his career.

I rate him highly cause of his bowling and field presence, not cause of his batting.

He deserves a place in the team solely on his bowling performances and I have always begged for people to view him as a bowler. His batting contribution should only be considered as a bonus.

    q,

You make Afidi sound like Miandad.

BTW, Butt was your VC isn't it?

    Why did he quit?

Ottayan - Hahaha...I think i'm the most vocal supporter Afridi has. But honestly, the guy has been very impressive on the field for the last 1 year. Forget what he does with the bat, with the ball in hand he's been Pakistan's man.

Salman Butt was appointed VC before the series against India in Scotland that never happened due to rain this summer - at that time he wasnt even in the starting line up of a Pakistan XI.

He disappointed big time with the bat in the 20-20 and then against SA in the tests. He was subsequently dropped for the 5 ODIs against SA effectively becoming a VC sitting on the bench.

The one time Shoaib Malik went off the field against SA, Younis Khan assumed the duties of a captain as the official VC was not in the playing XI.

So now, how could you have a VC whose not a confirmed starter in your XI. Butt shouldnt even be in the squad but I have no idea whose pulling the strings for him...

Butt was stripped of the V Captaincy, he didnt resign :-)

Younis Khan was appointed VC for this India series - something I didn't agree with. If you've read my blog "the point of a vice captain", you'll know why.

Well Butt is no longer VC, Younis Khan is so it doesnt matter if Butt plays or not. He did score 83 in the practice against Delhi so u never know Butt might get a game tomorrow. I would prefer Nazir though...
