No sledging on the blog please!

I bet I caught everyone's attention with this post... Im just adding some excitement in a sensationalist way and trying to emulate q's tabloid style journalism. We had our first visitor from South Africa yesterday! You know who you are... welcome and no sledging with the visiting Aussie's :) If the Pakistanis and Indians can behave then so can you.

Uncle J Rod, I hope this doesnt stop you from visiting our blog.

But jokes aside, we've had almost 1500 visits and 3500 page views in the 3 weeks since we have launched. We have people from all the major cricketing countries visit, with the exception of Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies. People form Bangladesh will have to visit and convince me that they are a major cricket playing country... I guess the same applies for all non-visitors! You are a minor cricketing nation, until you visit our blog and prove otherwise.

Anyway, the point is... on behalf of all of us, thanks for visiting and sending traffic to us. Please keep visiting and leave comments to let us know how we are doing and whether we need to do anything differently.

Make your pitch on this post...

I'm from England but of Sri Lankan origin - does that count?

1,500 visits in 3 weeks? Those are some numbers Obaid. Keep up the good work guys. Keep pitching it well :-)

Obaid - Miriam's comment makes me think that we don't know whether west indians, sri lankans and new zealanders have visited us or not. Definitely no one from that region, but expats from there living in the US, UAE, and the UK are a possibility.

Either way, I would also like to thank all the regular visitors to wellpitched and hope that we continue in the same manner.

miriam, does that qualify you to play for England? I am full of respect for Sri Lanka and the way they played the last test in Hobart. Great effort!

    Welcome to our blog!

Well I was born in England so am possibly only eligible to play for England. Before you ask, if England are playing I support England, EXCEPT when England are playing Sri Lanka, in which case I support Sri Lanka.

Has any player of sri lankan origin represented england in international cricket? Or is there any on the county circuit?

We all know the pakistan and indian origin players to have played for england but I don't think a lankan ever has.

Dmitri Mascarenhas is the only one that springs to my mind.

Isn't he related to Mark Mascarenhas, who is a South African? And that too of West Indian origin?

I don't know - I've not heard of Mark Mascarenhas. He may be, but I'm almost certain his parents are Sri Lankan. I remember reading an article about them fairly recently. I was 100% certain until you threw Mark Mascarenhas into the mix!
Incidentally, Dimitri was brought up in Australia so he may also have been eligible to play for them. If you ever hear him interviewed he has a distinct Aussie twang.

Yeah you're right, wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitri_Mascarenhas) says he is of Sri Lankan heritage, was born in England, and grew up in Australia.

And this (http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/308580.html) mentions his parents, who are from colombo.

I have no idea where Mark Mascarenhas came from. Sorry bout that.

It's a pretty unusual name. If I'd ever heard of Mark Mascarenhas I would have thought the same as you.

The principal of my school (St Patricks High School in Karachi) was also named Mr Mascarenhas.

Interestingly there were a lot of Sri Lankan's in Karachi then, atleast in my school. My chemistry, phsyics and maths teachers were all Sri Lankan. Many friends are also Sri Lankan. Also the School cricket coach, Mr Deserum was also Sri Lankan and he coached people like Faisal Iqbal and Kaneria (who I was lucky to be in the nets with once)

So to bring stuff back full circle, our current Pakistani team also has a Sri Lankan connection.

How many visitors have you had from Bermuda? If leverock brings up your page does he count as two?

Miraim, I believe the litmus test as to your nationality is "do you shower?"

Mark Mascarenhas was the media tycoon who ran WorldTel - the same company that won the rights to telecast the 1996 world cup.

He was also Sachin Tendulkar's agent and his company had a multimillion dollar deal with Sachin, which in the late 90s had made him into India's largest brand.

Mark Mascarenhas died in a car crash in India in 2002.

    ouch!

No visitors from Bermuda so far Andrew

    No one from Bermuda Andrew.

Plus we have had visitors from Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

What surprised me is that we've had visitors from Norway, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, and Ukraine.

Have you read a book called "Slogging the Slavs"? It's a travelogue by a man who travels through Eastern Europe playing cricket in places where you'd never expect cricket to be played. I'd recommend it especially for the stories of how his contacts in each country first came across cricket and became passionate about it.
