Opium or Hashish?

Thats the speculation as of now, though reports are saying that no case has been filed yet against Asif.

I for one know that both the drugs are quite common amongst Pakistani cricketers. They are a serious offence in Dubai but in placed like Pakistan, they are commonly used.

Definitely not performance enhancing drugs, but I'm not sure what WADA's take on this is.

Reports are also saying that its not sure whether Asif has been arrested or is in custody.

What I want to know is what was going on during the last 48 hours since the "arrest".

Cricinfo has this to say:

"Dubai's laws on drug possession and use are among the strictest in the region, though the top hierarchy of the PCB has always enjoyed close ties with leaders in the United Arab Emirates."

So they are already implying that the connections would let Asif off.

PCB is due to give a statement shortly.

Another addition to the Paki Bad Boys List.

irrespective of whether that is performance enhancing drug or not...

why current players and specially pak players have this uncanny habit of testing system? why cant they just go and play?

    its very frustrating...

Mmm, I can already smell a mysterious 3-man PCB appeal board on the way. Beautiful.

SP, if they didn't they wouldn't be Pakistanis.

Sadly, its not only the cricketers in Pakistan who test the system.

DS - one PCB official is already there.

Asif claimed he had been carrying the drug in his wallet for several months and didnt even remember it was there.

    Hmmm..

The thing is though - will opium or hash lead the PCB to fine Asif?

I doubt it cause literally the drug is common amongs the paki cricketers. very common.

It can't be Hashish because its not a performance enhancer it will be opium, now he was tested in India just before leaving, and there was a news in some paper that his tests continued for two and a half hours and he looked quite nervous and disturbed. If he has been taking it regularly it will show up in his tests, but if it was there because as he claims then he will not be the first victim of stupidity there were many before him.

Wasim, opium is also not a performance enhancer.

Both Hashish and opium are recreational drugs, which are very common in Pakistan.

no all of you are wrong according to the authenitic source PCB " This is all just speculation. We cannot hide stuff like this and remember there is no chargesheet yet. I have been told that what was found was some medicine given to him by a local Pakistani Hakeem."

    Q

Some of the Recreational drugs are also banned,
Opium and Hashish are considered to be Cannabinoids which is a banned Substance.
But it will all depend on how much Qty he was carrying and if he was using it what was the concentration level in his urine.

Even alcohol is banned for certain sports.

    Hahaha, right on NC.

But Wasim, the recreational drugs are not performance enhancers, why are they banned by WADA?

I just saw on TV that Asif has been released by Dubai Police. No charges have been pressed. Its not on the net yet though.

Q Its good news, but I read it on a site which had a list of substances banned by Wada, opium relieves pain and fatigue.

A lot of day laborurers in Pakistan take it as when they lift heavy loads they don't feel pain or fatigue it increases their stamina.

Ok so apparently Asif has still not been released. All those stories in dawn, jang, etc are false.

    I'm posting on it now.
