IS TODAY THE DAY...
8:08 am GMT
That Sachin Tendulkar becomes the highest run scorer in test cricket?
The whole of India, and probably the whole world, has been waiting for this to happen for atleast 5 years now.
It is one of those things that people have known would happen one day, but when exactly, no one really knew.
So with 28 runs to go to equal Brian Lara and 29 to surpass him and with 40 odd overs left in the days play...
Will Sachin do it?
Is today the day that over a billion people have been waiting for?
8:15 am GMT
26 runs to equal and 27 to become the record holder.
Will he do it today?
8:33 am GMT
18 runs to equal and 19 to get past Brian Lara!
Will he? Won't he?
8:39 am GMT
17 left to get the record.
9:20 am GMT
Holed out to short cover for 49, 1 short of a half century and 15 short of the world record.
I guess 13th October 2008 will not go down in history then.
What a pity!

more than that will sachin will be able to amend his second innings record of saving a match for india...
Tendulkar out on 49!!!
Still needs 15 runs to break Lara's record. He will do that in the next Test match.
He can't handle pressure now like he used to.
Q
Why do you think Shoaib Khan and Salman Butt were playing so slowly yesterday?
The target was so easy to achieve- they didn't need to bat with so much caution. Plus Shoaib played a very unconvincing knock and he got many lifelines. I have not been impressed with him at all and I don't understand why Malik took him on.
There is a lot of debate about two issues since Fawad Alam won the match against Sri Lanka:
1) Is Fawad Alam a threat to Afridi?
2) What is Alam’s role in the team and who is he going to replace?
My answer to Q1:
No, Fawad is a threat to Malik first and foremost. He should be a threat to Misbah too, but most of Pakistan rates Misbah very highly and he was made vice captain prematurely, so I won’t mention about Misbah.
Fawad is not a threat to Afridi because Afridi has been performing as a specialist bowler and he has been Pakistan’s most successful bowler in 2008.
According to Pakistani public opinion, after Malik they would prefer to see Misbah as captain. That is because Misbah is the vice captain now and most Pakistanis have been delighted at his performances. Younis also has support from many Pakistanis but people have learned to live with the fact that he refused captaincy twice, although recently he has expressed interest in the job.
So who else? Shahid Afridi, but he has the least support.
Q2) First we have to ask Fawad’s role is that of an all rounder or specialist batsman? Although he can bowl his expertise lies in batting. Until we come to terms with the fact that his batting is good enough to replace someone like Misbah, Yousuf or Younis, we will keep on considering him as a replacement for Shahid Afridi. If Afridi is replaced with Fawad the team will lose out bigtime, because we will be replacing:
1) a good spinner with a mediocre spinner
2) a bowling all rounder with a batting all rounder (whose bowling is very weak)
So the balance of the team will be affected.
SP - He still did better than he does in most 2nd innings..
Khansahab - he might get there in the 4th test!
Khansahab - i have posted on ur favorite man - Fawad Alam.
As for Shoaib Khan - I dont like him. I dont c why they needed him and Khalid Latif in the team when Nasir Jamshed had done so well in the past and Khurram Manzoor was a better option than Khalid.
Beats me.
Q, nobody I think was bothered about the record... everyone is more interested in his form and that of his colleagues... still a big big worry... Australia blew this game when they had it for the taking.
Scorps - I am eagerly waiting for Sachin's record. But if he gets there with this kind of form then he might as well not get there. Sad to see him struggle like this.
I thought Sachin defended stoutly today and it was his innings and partnerships with Gambhir and Laxman that halted Australia's momentum.
His 49 was probably more important to his side's fortunes than some of his 39 hundreds.
There was plenty of pressure before and after lunch and he handled it like the champion all wise cricket watchers know.
Nesta I agree, hence my comment "He still did better than he does in most 2nd innings.."
As for my comment about him struggling - that was more general about his recent form.
Definitely it was Sachin today who denied the Aussies the lead in the series.
When he went out, SRT made a grown man cry.
OK, Aussies do far too much of that, but still an impressive effort.
Q,
My 'wise' remark wasn't meant as a slight on you or anyone else.
Just wanted to point that out to avoid any confusion.
Quite an impressive effort LB!
Point taken Nesta.
