Dravid takes a dig at Sachin

After his effort of 136 Dravid said he was relieved.

But he said something else as well when one reporter asked him about his subdued raising of the bat on reaching his century.

"I was just happy. I'm older and wiser now. I don't jump around and get excited"

I think Dravid forgot Sachin's celebrations in the previous match before he said what he said.

I don't think it was his intention to imply that Sachin is not as wise as he is.

Or was it?

Maybe it was.

Maybe it was Dravid taking a dig at Sachin.

Who knows.

One thing is for sure though.

I would rather see a cricketer celebrate the way Sachin did than the way Dravid did.

Even if that makes him childish and less wise.

It doesn't, I don't think.

Dravid probably didn't want to show any emotion and played it cool.

I'm sure he must have been doing the bhangra without a shirt in his hotel room.

Make your pitch on this post...

    Q,

Sachin had just won the test match, when it looked almost impossible, with the highest ever run chase on Indian soil.

I reckon Rahul would have done the same, in that situation, no?!

As well as completing his century to score the winning runs!

Dravid is taking dig at SRT!!!
That too about style of celebration after century...

Ahem... A bit far-fetched I guess... Somewhat in the league 'Aaj Tak-India TV' news report I think... :)

o ji hello. yeh kya post hai ji twadda ? Sachin aur Rahul di dosti wich darar dalanedi foren saajish!!

koi nai jee, yeh koshish nakam ho jandi he paai...

Sachin and Dravid are two of coolest customers around in world cricket....

And one wud never take a dig at the other...Thats the secret of the bonding the team has even when the new age players are intruding in the Test team...

Generations are playing together in indian cricket and we dont see rift between the players cos nobody pretends to be senior or junior and neither does disrespect the captain (old or new) or beat the peers with a bat or verbal slangs :)

Na jee na yeh sab India wich nai honda.....So chill...

The question is can he jump without hurting himself?

    A bit far-fetched Q.

Even when Indian cricket went thru its roughest patch in recent times (the 2007 exit), no one blamed anyone.

Dravid is like that by nature. Dull. Look at him when a wicket falls. Very uninspiring.

Only when the team has won a big match or dug itself out of a hole, he has gone a bit over-the-top (by his standards).

I think his muted celebration and the reaction afterwards just confirm that he realizes how close he was to being dropped.

Suave, the way Rahul said he's older and wiser and doesn't jump, I doubt it. He would have walked up to the umpires, shaked hands, do the same with the opposition, and walk off.

Avik, Sam, and Leela - it was meant to be funny :-)

I didn't seriosuly think Rahul was doing that. I just put 2 and 2 together...

Sam, r u sure they r friends? I do believe that there was some rift when Dravid declared with Sachin on 194..

    Fair enough Q :-)
But you are right Sachin did not like the 194* thinggy in Multan. But to both their credit, they seem to have put it behind them.

I'm sure he wasn't taking a dig at sachin and wats wrong with Dravid's celebration. I really like his calm and composed posture and not showing any emotions outwards:)

well Q, Sach and RD are like Inzy and Youhanna (for Pak)..even if there was a rift (wish ful thinkin) it never affected their goals.....

True that Sam.. I agree. But wasn't the first time India won in Pakistan under Ganguly? It was the series before the 194 I think..

Anonymous - if uve been to Well Pitched previously u wud have read all about Afridi vs Malik, Akhtar vs Asif and Yousuf vs Malik. I've probably covered those more than any other blog..

As for writing .. trust me man, forget Pakistan, even if the world stopped playing cricket, I'll find something to write about..

Staying on the topic, I really do wonder what Dravid meant by what he said.

He was asked why his celebrations were subdued and why he didn't punch the air or jump.

His response was he was older and wiser thats why.

Now I know that was no dig at anyone but we all have seen the way the Sachins and the Sauravs and the Haydens celebrate their 100s - all of them being as old as if not older than Dravid...

    What does it mean then?

Sachin does not jump or punch the air after every century. Chennai was special and hence the celebration.

As for the Dravid statement why cant it be just a expression? Should there be a deeper meaning to every sentence spoken?

And India won in Pakistan for the first time when Dravid-Sachin incident took place in Multan.
Ganguly did not play first 2 tests.
    Captained the third.

    Let's see my checklist:
    1) Score agonizing slow century at Mohali -check
    2) Low key celebrations - Check
    3) Make dig at Sachin - Check
    4) Lose all support and admiration from Sachin, Team, Board and Nation - Check!

Urm... I think not, not when you're out of form and need the support of the most influential man in Indian cricket.

I don't know too many people who wouldn't have jumped and pumped their fist after that chase in Chennai, and Dravid certainly has expressed himself similarly in the past when an innings really meant something for the team, even if it wasn't a century. Sachin's relief wasn't at the century though that would certainly have contributed to the joy.

Anon, Sachin does punch the air and put his hands up in the air everytime he gets a ton.

And no, everything spoken does not need to have a meaning.. again as i said before im taking this in a very light tone.. to me it sounded funny that Dravid wud say that considering how is other older team mates celebrate..
