9.64!

Since the time I last spoke about him, Mendis has played another 4 ODIs and has picked up 15 more wickets.

He is one of those players whom I have followed since his debut.

I first wondered who he was and who knew what about him. We even got a perfect answer to that.

I then made an outrageous comment about him becoming the highest wicket taker in all international cricket by the time he retires.

I still stand by that.

I kept raving about him on Well Pitched. And I continue to.

As I write this, Mendis is playing his 18th ODI and before this match, his figures stood at:

126.3 - 13 - 463 - 48

That is 2.8 wickets per ODI.

That is a wicket every 3rd over.

That is a bowling average below 10!

Today, if he picks up atleast 2 wickets, Mendis will become the fastest bowler to 50 wickets in ODIs in terms of matches.

The record is 23, held by Ajit Agarkar.

To put it in perspective, Shane Warne got his 50 in his 25th, Saqlain in his 28th.

Mendis to 50 today!

And that too at an average of below 10.

I don't think I have ever seen a bowling average of 9.6 in any form of cricket.

Make your pitch on this post...

Miandad asking the question that when foreign temas playing in India why dont they play in pakisthan espesially in view of Mumbai attacs. The simple answer is the culprits are from pak itself in India or in Pak. In India we can take chances but not in Pak. Mr Miandad do give some answers to the questions of the world than simply asking the questions.

Wow, the comments have so much to do with Ajantha Mendis' record!

To provide a relevant comment - Mendis got no wickets today. Today was Murali's day. But, SL's batting has been woeful in this series. Or, is Zimbabwe's bowling suddenly for real?

Wasim & Khansahab, I appreciate the defence of Pakistan but I am sorry I will be deleting these comments as I don't want any political debate here.

Anonymous - u fucking well stay away from this blog. If u can't bloody appreciate what we are doing here at Well Pitched and want to just throw your damn weight behind whats wrong with Pakistan, then you come have a face to face discussion about this or at some other forum. Just stay the fuck out of here!

The legend of Mendis is growing but I really like to see him in action against Australia and especially South Africa which has a good batting line-up.

Any idea when Sl is playing them next.

Ola amigos, Naturally a post about Mendis draws my attention.

Splendid Mendis has been in surreal form !

He picked up yet another MOTS award for his efforts.

All records are set to tumble before the great man.

We play Bangladesh next in a test series surely he will break the most wickets for a 2 test series there as well.

    May 2009
Tri-Series in Sri Lanka (Ind, SL & SA)

I dont think that will happen though.

Pakistan are set to come to SL in July 09. Should be peaches !
