Is the ICC waking up?

The 8 best teams in the world.

2 groups of 4 teams each.

Top 2 in each group go to semis.

2 weeks total.

That's the format of the Champions Trophy, and it rocks! This is what an ODI tournament should be all about. Short, simple, sweet, and to-the-point.

The Champions Trophy is certainly an endangered tournament. But a good, short tournament will ensure it stays. I think it's a good addition to the calendar in this form. Two weeks every two years is not a bad deal at all.

Between the T20 and a revamped Champions Trophy, is the ICC actually waking up? Now all they have to do is revamp the World Cup to make it shorter and more meaningful. No hope for any changes in 2011, but perhaps beyond that.

And if you are wondering about the groups, they are:

Group A: Pakistan, India, Australia, West Indies.
Group B: South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand.

No way to predict anything because all teams are strong...that's the way it should be.

Hi Q . Hope you had a good weekend . read your post . you were moving to Manchester. I am sure you would be one busy person nowadays trying to wind up asap . However Great CT Iternary I should say . 26 September would be the day to reckon when the Titans clash isn't it ?

    Hi SM.

That post was by Sledgehammer, not me :-) ..

But yeah the weekend was awesome! and I have been up to my neck with stuff during my last week here.. thanx for asking.

Sledge said it, the CT schedule is awesome and it totally rocks.. as Sledge says, thats the way it should be..

However, this is a shortened Champions Trophy, which is why it is only 8 teams.. the previous ones have been 12 teams and I'm not sure whether this is a temporary revamp or a permanent one...

26th September - is that Pak v Ind?

Yes 26th is Pak vs India wish I was there in SA

@Q: They should make it permanent. No need to expand the tournament beyond 8 teams.

There was a Cricinfo poll (unscientific of course, so not to be taken too seriously) after the T20 WC that asked responders the best part of the tournament. The highest response, by far, was the short length of the tournament.

However they decide the 8 teams (ODI seedings at a cutoff date, etc) is something to work on. However, keeping it short and sweet is imperative.

Undoubtedly they should make it permanent.. but I don't know if the ICC is going to do that..
