The Grand World Cup Final: It is all about Sachin Tendulkar!

The first ever ICC World Cup Final between two Asian nations.

The first ever ICC World Cup Final between two host nations.

The third ICC World Cup Final for both teams.

An ICC World Cup Final between the two teams that lost in the Final to Australia during the last two World Cups.

An ICC World Cup Final involving the highest ODI run scorer and highest ODI wicket taker in their last ever ODI*.

There couldn't have been a bigger World Cup Final than India vs Sri Lanka.

Well yes there could have if it was Pakistan vs India, but with the presence of Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan, it makes it a Grand Final.

I watched Sachin make his debut 22 years ago when he toured Pakistan and faced a bowling attack comprising of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Aqib Javed. He lasted only 2 balls and lost his wicket to Waqar Younis.

For the next 22 years, however, he tormented bowlers the world over, notching up century after century.

He now stands on 99 international centuries - 48 in ODIs and 51 in tests. The stage is set for him to bring up his 100th international 100 in a World Cup Final.

The last time Sachin was there, he didn't last too long as McGrath got the better of him.

That was Johannesburg, but tomorrow it will be in his home town - Mumbai!

The stage could not have been better set for the greatest batsman ever to play the game.

A World Cup victory is really the only thing missing from Sachin's overflowing list of achievements. It is the one thing that has remained elusive throughout his 22 year career and something he so dearly wants to achieve.

It is time for India to return all the favours he has done them for the last 22 years!

Sri Lanka will be tough to beat, but I really think that there will be no stopping India tomorrow.

Considering that Muralitharan already has a World Cup victory under his belt, its only fair that Sachin ends up on the winning side tomorrow.

And then at least we will also be able to say that even Pakistan had a hand in helping Sachin Tendulkar fulfil his dream, as it probably would not have happened had he been caught on 27.

For me, its not about India or Sri Lanka tomorrow... to hell with the saying that "its a team game" ..

Tomorrow is all about Sachin Tendulkar, his 100 international centuries, and his first ever World Cup title.

*Only Murali has announced his retirement, but I guess Sachin will as well from the ODI game once India wins the Final.

Pakistan vs India in a World Cup Semi Final - It Has Never Been Bigger!

PAKISTAN VS INDIA

I was told that I have been "awfully quiet" on the subject by someone today. I think otherwise, considering my activity on Facebook, but yes what was missing was a post. After all it is the grand daddy of all cricket matches and I really should have posted at least once on each day leading up to the match, but it was also the last week of my MBA program, which kept me tied up till last night.

The MBA is over now. The World Cup will be as well soon and life will come to a stand still. Come 3rd April, I wouldn't know what to do with my day... but before that, all my thoughts on the match that is just 7 hours away!

HISTORY DOESN'T MATTER

Pakistan have never beaten India in a World Cup game.

Pakistan have never lost to India in Mohali in the last two decades.

Pakistan successfully chased 320 odd in the last ODI between them at Mohali.

Pakistan has a better overall record against India.

All this will matter for little when the two teams step on to the field to battle it out for a spot in the ICC World Cup Final 2011.

SRI LANKA'S ACHIEVEMENT

Before I go on about this grand daddy of a match, I just want to mention the neglected Sri Lankans who have sort of made history. They have become the first Asian team to make it to the ODI World Cup Final for a second successive time - if you are forgetting, they were finalists in 2007 also!

Plus, the Sri Lankans will be a part of the first ever All Asian World Cup Final on Saturday! This is big!

THE MOST IMPORTANT PAKISTAN VS INDIA GAME?

Who the Lankans will face is another question altogether.

Pakistan or India?

Surely, this has got to be the most important Pakistan vs India cricket match ever. In the history of cricket. Hell, in the history of sport.

Yes there have been a World T20 final, a World Cup quarter final, numerous Sharjah Cup finals, AustralAsia Cup finals, Asia Cup finals, and various other important Pakistan vs India games.

But... it really hasn't ever been bigger than this.

Its the World Cup and its for a spot in the final!

PAKISTAN VS INDIA & THE POWER OF FACEBOOK

The frenzy around this match has been crazy... There have been so many pictures, videos, comments around this match that it has really been hard to follow. I have to say though that some of pictures and comments that have come out of this frenzy have been pure genius.

I don't remember this type of hype for any Pakistan vs India match. Or maybe its just the power of the social networks that I now see the hype from millions (well not really but...) of people than from a select few before Facebook, Twitter, & Blogger became a part of our lives.

The power of the social networks is such that I've witnessed random banter between my Indian and Pakistani friends who don't know each other at all.

The beauty of cricket I say. Moreso the beauty of Pakistan vs India and the power of Facebook!

ODDS IN FAVOUR OF INDIA

The match is 7 hours away and people all around the world are eagerly waiting in anticipation. As am I.

Both sides have got the talent to win the game, but at the end of the day it is really going to be a battle between Pakistan's bowling and India's batting. In Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul, Pakistan have two of the leading wicket takers in the World Cup, while Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Yuvraj Singh are among the leading run scorers.

But then most Pakistan v India battles have been the same - always our bowling, against India's batting.

The odds, however, are stacked in India'a favour. As they should be. They started the tournament as one of the favourites, they are playing at home, and on paper are the strong side.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have done what Pakistan does best - Forgot about Ijaz Butt, the hopeless PCB Chairman, the revolts and dressing room politics, the spot fixing scandal, and all the off-field issues that plagued them for the last 3-4 years and just turned up on the field to play the kind of cricket they excel at - fearless and aggressive.

THE POWER OF AFRIDI

For me, this is due to the one and only Shahid Afridi!

He has led from the front, bowled like a true champion, and marshalled the troops like a battle hardened general. He plays the game with intensity and passion and he has managed to instil that in every single member of the squad.

The fact that he has been successful with the ball has helped as the boys in green have rallied around him.

How Afridi performs tomorrow will be key to how successful Pakistan will be.

Very few (the eternal optimists like me) expected Pakistan to get this far, and they have only managed to do so because they feel they have a lot of points to prove to the world.

Undoubtedly, Pakistan will take the field with the same intensity as they have so far in this tournament. Maybe even more considering its against India. Their most experienced batsmen in Younis Khan, Misbah, and Afridi average more against India than they do in their careers so surely their game will be a notch higher than it has been.

And if Afridi roars early, it will be very hard for India to beat Pakistan.

SACHIN'S DREAM

India, on the other hand, have been driven by very different reasons. Besides the fact that they have one of the strongest batting line ups in the world and one of the shrewdest captains, Sachin Tendulkar has been the driving force behind India's success.

The God of Indian cricket... no, I mean the God of cricket is playing his last World Cup and it is no secret that he really wants to have a World Cup winning medal on his wall before he hangs up his boots.

Sachin has given so much to Indian cricket, that it is only fair that the men in Blue give their best to give Sachin the only thing that has been missing from his awesome career. Yuvraj even mentioned that his motivating force for this World Cup was a "special person". Undoubtedly that is Sachin.

The fact that the World Cup final will be played in Mumbai in front of Sachin's home crowd, makes the stage all the more bigger, and this semi final all the more important!

As most people know, I am a huge Sachin fan, and as a pure cricket fan I would love to see Sachin score his 100th international century in front of his home crowd and lead India to a World Cup victory in probably his last ever ODI.

He is a true star and he deserves it and India will be driven to make Sachin's dream come true, which is what will make it all the more tougher for Pakistan.

SHOAIB AKHTAR SHOULD PLAY

Shoaib Akhtar has at most two international games left to play in his career. Not that that is a reason for why he should take the field against India, but that is a major reason behind why he will give it his all.

And Shoaib Akhtar's all is a lot to send shivers down the Indian batsmen on a Mohali pitch that is probably the bounciest Indian pitch there is.

Mohali is being touted as a pitch that will favour the faster bowlers and one that will not be that helpful for spinners. Considering this, I think it is imperative that Shoaib Akhtar plays.

The fact that it will be his last ever match against India, will make him play out of his skin, and I believe he can have a huge impact on the game if given the chance.

News is that he will not play, but I really think that Afridi should pencil him down on the team sheet and mention it at the toss.

SO WHO WILL WIN?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this is the best chance either team has to win a World Cup.

India has never had a stronger ODI team than they have had since MS Dhoni took over.

As for Pakistan, Afridi is the only captain that can make the players rise above all expectations and perform like a unit. He has done it year after year in domestic cricket leading several Karachi sides to finals and wins in various tournaments.

Those who have followed Pakistan's domestic cricket know what I'm talking about, and I am so damn pleased that the world is witnessing that now through Pakistan's charge at the World Cup.

I would love to see Sachin's dream come true, but what I would love to see more is Shahid Afridi lifting the World Cup trophy on Saturday!

Yes that is my heart speaking, but then when it comes to Pakistan vs India, it can only be thought of with the heart. The mind goes numb, the diplomats inside everyone take a hike, and emotions get the better of everyone. Me included.

People can say as much as they want that "it is just a game of cricket", but we all know that it is not just that. It is so much more than just a game.

Even moreso when it is a World Cup semi final.

Most of the fans from either side are saying "doesn't matter if you lose the final, don't lose this match".

Hell with that man! Don't lose this or the final... Go for Gold Greens!!

Lorgat the Octopus ?

There have been numerous shockers in this World Cup, but I guess none bigger than Haroon Lorgat's comment to defend Wankhede Stadium as the venue for the Cricket World Cup 2011 final.

Wankhede Stadium is the second smallest international cricket stadium in India, but apparently that does nothing to convince the ICC to look for other venues because the ICC does not believe when the elders say ' Home is where is the heart is '.

Yes, the ICC asks you to provide a better ending to Sachin Tendulkar's fairytale and they might consider changing the venue ! you heard it right mate, Haroon Lorgat claims there could be no better ending than Sachin scoring a hundred in the final and lifting the trophy at his home ground. if seeing is believing for you, here you go !

So many questions arose in my mind that it eventually seized to function and I'm at a total loss of words. Wankhede stadium has a capacity of 33,000 spectators compared to 63,000 at Eden Gardens, and 50,000 each at the Feroz Shah Kotla and Mohali (to name a few).

Apparently a few thousand spectators not being able to watch the World Cup final (hosting the home team I may add) isn't actually that significant you see - compared to one man whose final (probably) world cup appearance "should" be glorified !
You realise that the poor guy hasn't lifted a World cup yet dont you ?! He's entertained us so much over the years so it becomes our moral duty to help this little Cindrella meet her prince.

Now just like Paul the Octopus was able to predict the results of all the Euro 2008 and Soccer world cup 2010 results correctly. I think the Lord of the Worlds had plans to keep his mysterious powers on Earth even after he passed away, and so passed them on to Mr. Lorgat who could predict:

1) India plays the World cup final in the first place
2) Sachin Tendulkar scores a century
3) India wins the World cup

If you feel this is harsh and the new octopus just wanted to draw a picture of the world going insane at Wankhede once Sachin gets his hands on to the trophy, and it was just an innocent thought - do you think 'just a thought' is justification enough for depriving approximately 30,000 fans of watching the world cup final without having to file a leave request at work and flying to another country to do so ?

And if this thought 'co-incidentally' falls into place, I think it should raise more eyebrows than certain recent events did.

The New Analytical Pakistan

When was the last time Pakistan chose their playng 11 keeping in view the strength of the opposition ?

Following Pakistan cricket we all have seen opposition sides struggling at 50-4 or 100-5. But when was the last time Pakistan did not allow the tail enders to drag the score beyong 200 and make a match of it ?

Do you remember Pakistan changing a winning combination (that beat Australia) just to counter the conditions and the plan of the rival batsmen ?

When ever did Pakistan's openers bat with utmost responsibility so as to finish the game off themselves, and at the same time look so damn comfortable in the middle and not give us any thoughts of a pakistan style collapse happening ?

Pakistan are slow starters man - just wait and watch . This used to be our typical response when Pakistan used to lose initial matches of high profile tournaments, and secretly pray and hope that they would bounce back somehow

Was there ever a world cup when Pakistan did not have to rely on team X beating team Y by A amount of runs ? Or another match to be washed out by rain ? for them to qualify for the second round

When was the last time Pakistan topped their group ? And was the first team to qualify for the Semi's ?

And C'mon Gents ! did you ever think Pakistan's strength would be their spin bowling ? with barely 2 fast bowlers in the side !! used to give me nightmares

This time around, Pakistan is not hanging around and hoping that history repeats itself. It's time we rewrite it from A to Z, page by page - word by word - and alphabet BY alphabet !

Pakistan is thinking about their team combinations, analyzing their strength and working on their weaknesses.

Pakitan is just so glad the world did not give them a chance at this world cup, cuz the last time this happened - we went on to lift the cup :)

5 Reasons why Pakistan will win the World Cup !

We love to covince ourselves with reasons on why Pakistan will go on to lift the trophy. Many have written on the same subject, and a couple of the reasons listed below might also be identical to the ones you have read earlier. There might be more (definitely), but these are the similarities between the 1992 campaign and the the one underwary right now. Some of these repeated themselves in our victory in the T20 World cup in 2009 as well, and back home when a particular series of events recur and give us what we want to see.. we stamp them as pre-requisites for times to come. Let's have a look and feel good till we can :

1) Intikhab Alam

Ask a newborn in Pakistan who do you want as the National cricket teams coach and he'l say Intikhab Alam. He wouldn't even know how Intikhab uncle looks like but he'l know that this was the same coach who was with us when we won the World cup in 1992 and even when we won the T20 World cup in 2009. Even though he isn't coach, his mere presence has charged the team up, or maybe it's just the effect of a rare sane person in the squad.

2) Aqib Javed

One more personality in the same category as above is the man who was spotted by Imran khan when he was 17 years old. He bowled in the 1992 World Cup with the intelligence that can be branded as gifted (who can forget his slower delivery which got Mark Greatbatch).
Give him extra points as he was the bowling coach in the T20 campaign in 2009 as well. Imran Khan always said he was more intelligent than Wasim and Waqar, it's time to show the world how true this is.

3) Led by a Khan

The only times we have won World Titles was when our leader had a Khan tag.
Imran Khan did it 1992
Younus Khan did it in 2009
and Shahid Khan will do it in 2011

4) Beating the unbeaten

New Zealand was an unbeaten side in the 1992 WC, the only side to beat them was Pakistan. The cornered tigers actually humbled them twice. The most memorable was the one that came in later in the Semi finals

South Africa romped over all their opponents in the 2009 T20 WC, until the men in green put the breaks on in a nail biting finish

Our men have already given an indication on what is to come by beating the unbeaten Aussies and putting to halt what has been an amazing winning streak of 34 games on the trott spanning 3 World cup tournaments.

5) Dethrone Australia

Whom did we dethrone when we won the cup in 1992 ?
Australia

Whom do we have dethrone when we do it again on the 2nd of April 2011 ?
Oops ! Australia again

The only two times we won the title, the captain quit (atleast that particular form of the game). Imran khan called it quits after 1992 and Younus khan announced his retirement from the T20 version. Only if Afridi can make a similar announcement, this should be the final nail in the coffin.

Here's to Pakistan's Third ICC World Title !

Give the Pathan a break !

Having lunch a day before the world cup kicked off 'in style i may add' , a colleague just started off with 'what a lame decision to appoint Afridi as captain', paused for a while and continued 'a player who doesnt even know what role he has in the team '
I tried to inquire and understand why he (or they actually) as a couple more stepped in and agreed in unison, thought this way ?
They : He thinks he can bat but he cant !
Me: Well, to be precise Afridi himself says he is a bowler who can bat a bit
They: Well, only if he could bat sensibly, our generations wouldn't waste their talent trying to copy him ! if he dint bat the way he does, our youngsters would have better role models to follow Me: How is it his fault if people follow him and want to bat like him?
Afridi doesn't go about knocking on every door begging people to slog like hehe does ? He was actually drafted in as a replacemen to Mushtaq Ahmed and not Javed Miandad if you know !
They: Well he makes silly decisions as a captain, takes too much pressure and presses the panic button almost instantly
Me: Would you rather have the reactive and boring captaincy of Inzimam then who would wait for a couple of boundaries to be hit in a particular direction before a planting a fielder there ? or would you want someone like Mohammad Yousuf to lead you who thinks spreading the field with 6 fielders outside the circle is the way to attack when you have a tailender on the crease and a bowler like Mohd Amir on the runup ?

I think it's time we started to try and accept Shahid Khan Afridi the way he is। He is impulsive but fuels aggression in the side - He shouts and screams on the field but let's the seniors take center stage when they want to - He runs like a maniac after holding on to a catch and that believe me is enough catalyst to wake up a napping Pakistan side ! I believe this is all this side needs to win। You don't teach them how to bat with a straight bat, or what to say at the post match presentation, or how to behave on the field ! You tell them to go in and tear the opposition apart, YES ! exactly like Imran Khan did in 1992 and if anyone in this squad is good at this, it is only one man ! The Magician, The Pathan, It is Pakistan cricket's Superman, it is Boom Boom Afridi.

However they fare at this tournament, I'm somehow convinced that Afridi and his men will try, and try their best।
Did we forget how the South Africans greeted their team when they lost the semi's in 1999?
They landed at the airport to placards saying "You tried, and we love you"
In 1992, it wasn't just the team, it wasn't only the determination to win, not just a sincere person leading the team but prayers flying in from all corners of Pakistan.

Do you think it's time we give them what they've been missing ?

Where will Pakistan end up in Group A?

In Group A, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka have have made it through to the quarterfinals. Its only Pakistan that has an outside chance of really screwing up and missing out.

Lets take a look at some of the scenarios.

Optimistic Scenario: Pakistan wins both its matches against Zimbabwe and Australia

If Pakistan does manage to win both these games then it will top Group A if Sri Lanka beat New Zealand. However, if New Zealand beats Sri Lanka, then both Pakistan and New Zealand will be on level points and Pakistan will probably be second in the Group due to New Zealand's better net run rate.

Realistic Scenario: Pakistan beats Zimbabwe, and loses to Australia

In this case Pakistan will either be third in Group A or fourth. If Sri Lanka beat New Zealand then both Pakistan and New Zealand will be on level points, but most likely New Zealand's better run rate will mean Pakistan end fourth. However, if New Zealand beat Sri Lanka then Pakistan will end up as third in the Group.

The same will be the case in the rather unrealistic scenario of Pakistan losing to Zimbabwe, and beating Australia. Actually, knowing Pakistan that's not unrealistic at all! In fact I may even place my bets on this happening.

Pessimistic Scenario: Pakistan loses to both Australia and Zimbabwe

This might lead to a tricky situation if Zimbabwe beat Kenya, because then Pakistan and Zimbabwe will be level on 6 points each and net run rate will decide on which of the two qualify as fourth in Group A.

As of now, Pakistan's net run rate is superior, but that could change based on how heavy Pakistan's two losses are and how big Zimbabwe's two wins are.

So there is still a chance, albeit a very small one, that Pakistan does not make it to the quarterfinals. Unlikely though.

So no real surprises that even at this stage and despite looking like topping Group A one week ago, Pakistan can still end up in any position from 1st to 4th to even knocked out, at the conclusion of the group stages!

How True is Sehwag's Story about Sachin & Shoaib?

"Beta beta hota hai, baap baap hota hai"

This is what Virender Sehwag said to Shoaib Akhtar when Sachin Tendulkar hooked him for a 6.

The story goes something like this:

Sehwag was batting on a score close to 200... Shoaib Akhtar kept peppering him with bouncers and kept asking Sehwag to hook... Sehwag's response to Akhtar was "your daddy is batting at the other end, ask him and he will hook"... Sachin was batting at the other end... Shoaib bowled the bouncer to him... Sachin hooked him for 6... that is when Sehwag uttered those words.

Here, hear it from Sehwag himself as he tell Shahrukh Khan the story during the recently held Sahara India Sports Awards.

But where is the video of Sehwag uttering those words?

Which match was it?

Did it actually happen?

The one Sachin 6 off Shoaib that comes to mind is the one over point during the World Cup match in 2003.

When was this famous hook for 6?

A friend, Maryam Haroon, investigated this story further and here is what she found.

In test matches against Pakistan, Sehwag has been close to a score of 200 on 4 occasions:

1. 309 in Multan, 2004. Shoaib played the game, Sachin scored 194*, but his innings did not include any 6.

2. 173 in Mohali 2005. Shoaib did not play.

3. 201 in Bangalore 2005. Shoaib did not play.

4. 254 in Lahore 2006. Sachin did not get to bat.

So the incident definitely did not take place in a test match.

So maybe it was an ODI?

Well Sehwag has never got to a score of close to 200 in an ODI against Pakistan, but he does have two centuries. The 108 in Kochi, 2005, when Sachin scored only 4; and the 119 in Karachi, 2008, a game that Sachin did not play.

So then, a made up story being told by Sehwag on national Television?

There doesn't seem to be much truth in it.

So what was it then? A story told for entertainment value? Marketing the Shoaib vs Sachin or Shoaib vs Sehwag rivalry? Belittling Shoaib Akhtar?

Decide for yourself.

Note:

I just found out about this through a friend on Facebook, but again through Facebook I found out that Zeeshan Ahmed had already broken this story on his blog long way back.

Kamran Akmal is Preparing for another Birthday Party

With contribution from Atif Butt

Pakistan plays its next match on 14th March against Zimbabwe and Kamran Akmal was seen training hard for the game.

When questioned on whether he expects to be in the playing XI on the day, Kamran said he was sure he would be playing since he's taken on the responsibility to provide opposition batsmen with the best ever playing experience possible on their birthday.

He managed to fulfil his responsibility very well against New Zealand when he made sure that Ross Taylor got the best birthday gift ever.

And now Kamran is gearing up to provide the Zimbabwe captain, Elton Chigumbura, with a similar experience on Monday to celebrate the Zimbabwe skipper's 26th birthday.

Elton Chigumbura is really excited to play against Pakistan on his birthday on 14th March and is looking forward to some dropped catches from Kamran Akmal and an ultimate birthday experience.

Dropped and dropped again!!!

Sad, disgusted, no hope left, I knew it, I can’t believe it....these were
just some of the few emotions and expressions that were going through mine
and almost certainly another 180 million plus minds around the world, when
Mr. Kamran Akmal dropped Ross Taylor twice, which almost guaranteed that
Pakistan lose the match from that point onwards. But why are we so shocked?
Now that I think about it while keeping my emotions in check, Pakistan
Cricket is just another reflection of the country Pakistan itself. You
can’t blame Kamran, we know he’s useless, but blame the person who gave him
the job. Just like the inept and incompetent leadership that has been
bestowed to our beautiful country, our cricket administration is in
shambles. So how can we expect our PCB to make any right decision by
choosing the right administrators and players, when the only model they have
in front of them is of a corrupt and ineffectual government. We can only
speculate the reason; why Kamran Akmal is still wicket keeping in the most
prestigious Cricketing Event in the world, but we know for sure that his
skills and abilities have nothing to do with it. Sad but true that this also
goes for almost every state run organization in Pakistan. Pakistan’s hopes
being ‘dropped’ over and over again by individuals we place our expectations
in.
As far as Kamran Akmal is concerned; they say its insanity when you keep
doing the same thing and expect different results. We can’t expect any magic
behind the stumps while we keep persisting with Mr. Akmal.

The Kamran Fakmal Bashing Brigade

What is Kamran Akmal's favourite pick up line? "Can I drop you somewhere?"

Kamran Akmal is such a bad wicket keeper, he can't even catch a flu. Not even if he stood naked in sub zero temperatures in Siberia!

What do Kamran Akmal and Michael Jackson have in common? Both wear gloves for no apparent reason.

In pin drop silence, guess who drops the pin? Kamran Akmal!

Kamran Akmal is every robber's dream, because he will never be able to catch them.

Why did Kamran Akmal have to walk back to the team hotel after the match? Because he failed to catch the bus!

Maybe Kamran Akmal would have been a better wicket keeper if his hands were as big as his teeth.

Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Behind Ross Taylor, there is Kamran Akmal.

Why is Umar Akmal the best batsman in the Akmal family? Because he got the most chance to bat in the back yard as Kamran Akmal kept dropping him.

What do Kamran Akmal and a funnel have in common? Both let things through easily.

Its time to drop Kamran Akmal, just so he knows how the ball feels.

If Kamran Akmal was a South American footballer, his mistakes would have cost him his life by now.

It's Ross Taylor's birthday! Shoaib Akhtar delivered the cake, Abdul Razzaq the candles, and Kamran Akmal blew them.

Kamran Akmal will make a very good footballer because he will never be required to use his hands to catch the ball.

Why do parents trust their daughters with Kamran Akmal? Because they know he will always drop them home.

Ever wondered how the third best wicket keeper in the Akmal family is the first choice wicket keeper in the country?

If a movie were to be made starring Kamran Akmal, it title would be "The one who dropped the ball".

What is the one thing that Kamran Akmal is really good at? Clapping! Because he's always eager to put his hands together before the ball reaches him.

And to conclude...

Naara-e-Awam da... Zardari to baad, Kamran Akmal haraam da!

When will we (The Pakistani Fans) be Happy?

Drop Hafeez.

Drop Ahmed Shehzad.

Make Kamran Akmal open.

No, replace Kamran Akmal and make Umar Akmal keep.

Wahab Riaz should be in the team.

Replace Rehman with Saeed Ajmal.

Replace Umar Akmal with Asad Shafiq.

Is there anything else that Pakistani fans want?

I think it is high time that we stop acting as selectors of the team and focus on celebrating its successes.

I mean seriously, is there nothing that makes us happy?

Pakistan has played 3 matches in the World Cup and have won all 3!

What more do we want?

If we all understand the game so well, then we all should also understand the age-old captaincy rule - never change a winning combination.

And never means never!

We don't have an opening problem. We don't need Asad Shafiq in the middle order. We don't need Razzaq to bat higher. We have what we want.

Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad have been one of the most stable opening partnerships that Pakistan has had in a long time.

Each of them have a century in their last 10 ODI games. So what if they haven't notched up big scores in the World Cup yet? We all know that once either one gets a ton, Pakistan will win the game.

After a long long time, Pakistan have a stable top 6. Each batsman knows where they are going to bat and what their role is, and so far they have been fulfilling it well. Yes, they failed against Canada but that happens. We don't need to change anything in the batting order - it is a settled one and looks good.

And the best part about it, if any of the top 6 get a big score, we know Pakistan will win the game.

Why do Pakistani fans feel that Razzaq is being wasted at number 8? Have we forgotten his weakness against spin?

Razzaq's strength is finishing an innings with a bang. There are very few batsmen that can demolish an attack in the death overs the way Razzaq can, and Pakistan have got him in the role that suits him best. Ideally, Razzaq at number 8 will walk out to bat in the last 5-7 overs and that is when he will be at his destructive best.

Why do you want Wahab Riaz in place of a batsman? Canada showed how our batting can implode and they also showed how our bowling is much stronger than most of our fans think it is.

Pakistan is not playing an extra batsman. Pakistan is playing a well balanced side with 5 batsmen, a keeper, 2 allrounders, and 3 specialist bowlers. Balance does not come better than that!

As for Rehman and Saeed Ajmal - I guess they really are replaceable (by each other). I don't think either is better than the other and either can do the job that Pakistan requires of them. For whatever reason, the team management prefers Rehman and we should just let it be.

Today, Pakistan showed that they have the ability to come out of any situation, which is an amazing quality to have - instead of cribbing about our batting performance, we should be harping on about how we fought back hard. Its a champion quality to come back from the dead - whether the team does it or one person does not matter.

The best part about Pakistan's first XI that played in the matches against Kenya and Sri Lanka is that there are 9 match winners in there, if not 10. We need just 1 of them to click for Pakistan to win the match. Unfortunately no one clicked with the bat against Canada, but Afridi did with the ball and that is all that was required.

Younis Khan put it out there perfectly when he was asked about the low total. He said "it wasn't low, it was more than enough for Canada".

What a brilliant reply!

If only the Pakistani fans were also just as positive.

And to answer the question in the title of this post - I guess we will be happy if Pakistan wins the ODI World Cup, but we should also be happy knowing that that is also what the team wants and that is what the team is working towards.

Let them do the work and decide on the roles to achieve the goal, and lets just be happy supporting them and their decisions.

Love for Sachin knows no Borders

He's God for the Indians.

He's the only one who bats like him for Sir Donald Bradman.

He's the one who gives nightmares for Shane Warne.

He's the most prized wicket for Wasim Akram.

He's the best batsman he's ever bowled to for Allan Donald.

He's Paa Ji for the Indian cricket team.

And he's the best batsman to have ever played the game for me and for the entire world.

It really doesn't matter whether one is from India or Pakistan or Timbuktu - if you have watched Sachin Tendulkar bat, you are a fan!

And again, it doesn't matter whether you are from India or Pakistan or any other cricket playing country - you got to know that this World Cup is about Sachin Tendulkar.

Love for Sachin the batsman knows no borders and has no boundaries!

He possibly holds every single batting record there is in ODI cricket and Test cricket. He has done it all in his illustrious career. The only thing missing is a World Cup victory.

And how badly he wants it.

And how badly his fans want to see him get it.

Just before the World Cup 2011 started, Sachin promised that he will be at his aggressive best at the top of the order.

Sure Sachin is not the same aggressive batsman he was 10 years ago but he is still in a class of his own. His game has evolved with time, but one can't score a double hundred in an ODI game without being aggressive, and Sachin did that just a year ago.

So why the criticism still comes his way regarding the lack of aggression is still beyond me.

Criticism or no criticism, Sachin showed the world that he meant what he promised. He showed the world that he is going to deliver. He showed the world that they can keep dreaming about a World Cup victory for Sachin and his team.

His innings against Bangladesh was cut short due to a misunderstanding in the middle, but against England he made sure that no such mistakes are made.

Sachin was definitely at his aggressive best, smashing all bowlers to all parts of the ground.

He made Graeme Swann, whom the English regard as the best spinner in the world, look like Carl Hooper!

He destroyed Swann and the rest of England's bowling attack to notch up his 5th century in ODI World Cups.

Sachin Tendulkar's World Cup campaign has begun and he is on his way to achieve the one elusive prize that is not there on his shelf - The ICC World Cup Winner's Medal!

Yes its a team game, yes its about India and not one man, and all that bull... but for me, this World Cup is about Sachin, irrespective of what MS Dhoni says.

The Dhonis, Yuvrajs, Gambhirs, Kohlis, Rainas et al will have many more cracks at the World Cup - for Sachin, this is the last one and they need to do it for him more than for the 1.2 billion people.

Sachin has given so much to Indian cricket, and now its time for Indian cricket to give him what he so dearly wants.

Can you imagine what it would be like to see Sachin lead India to victory on his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in the final of the 2011 World Cup?

It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it!
