Pakistan Cup Ramblings...

The Pakistan Cup came to a conclusion last night with the Federal Areas completing a thrilling one wicket win over Balochistan in the final.

Chasing a rather steep target of 324, Federal Areas had a great start with Sami Aslam and Mohammad Hafeez making it look rather easy. A collapse, however made the game close than it should have been. And it ended up being a nail biter!

The Pakistan Cup had some impressive performances, which should be noted by the selectors.

Mohammad Hafeez
I have stated many times that I will never understand the criticism against Hafeez, especially in ODIs. In Tests and T20s, I get it. But in ODIs, Hafeez has been Pakistan's best batsman over the past 6-7 years; barring the recently blooming Babar Azam.

The Pakistan Cup further consolidated his status in the ODI format. Not only was he the leading run scorer of the tournament with 362 runs in 5 innings at an average of 72.4 and a strike rate of 99.5, he was also the Man of the Final and the best batsman of the tournament.

There really should not be any doubt about his place in the ODI team.

Sami Aslam
I have no clue why he was dropped from the test squad to the West Indies and replaced by lesser openers. Whatever the reason was, Sami Aslam responded in the best manner possible.

He amassed 333 runs in 5 innings at an average of 66.6 and a strike rate of 114.4. Quite awesome for a modern day opening batsman.

There should never be a doubt regarding his position as a test opener; this Pakistan Cup has also opened the opportunity for him to be considered as an ODI opener.

Sahibzada Farhan
This unknown 21-year old batsman from Charsadda is playing his second domestic season in Pakistan and he had everyone take notice following his consistent performance in the Pakistan Cup.

In 5 innings as opener of Balochistan, he knocked 4 half centuries and 1 century, which came in the final. He scored 331 runs at an average of 66.2 and a strike rate of 103.4.

He is definitely one for the future!

Fahim Ashraf
He was recently selected for Pakistan's ODI squad to play against the West Indies; however he did not make it to the playing XI in either of the matches.

He was the second highest wicket taker of the Pakistan Cup and has a very impressive List A and First Class Record with the ball.

Top 5 Highest Power Play Scores in IPL

In this article we are going to have a look at the 5 best Power Play scores of the Indian Premier League in history.

5: IPL 2009: 5.84 for 1, Deccan Chargers vs. Delhi Daredevils
The fact that this Power Play came during the semi-final of the Indian Premier League of 2009 makes it even more stupendous. The Deccan Chargers, chasing their target of 154, and led by the inscrutable Adam Gilchrist, blazed their way to 84 for 1 inside the first 6 overs.

Gilchrist played one of the very best knocks the IPL had ever seen, with fierce cuts, violent pulls, and ferocious drives. His excellent play allowed him to lead his team to this score when the Power Play came to an end, and the Chargers won the match with more than 2 overs to go.

4: IPL 2014: 4.86 for 1, Kings XI Punjab vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad
In a wild chase of 206 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, Kings XI Punjab need a good start in this Indian Premier League game in 2014. Manan Vohra and Wriddhiman Saha provided the onslaught, and they tore into Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dale Steyn with seeming ease.

On a surface far more suited to the Hyderabad team, these 2 batsmen managed to hit the bowlers to each of the park’s corners, and they notched up 86 – 1 in the Power Play. Thanks to this incredible start, Punjab managed to chase the target down in only 18.4 overs, and sports betting sites around the world paid out huge sums to lucky punters.

3: IPL 2011: 87 for 2, Kochi Tuskers Kerala vs. Rajasthan Royals
In the final league match of the 2011 Indian Premier League for team Kochi Tuskers Kerala, it was made more than memorable by how totally they managed to decimate the Rajasthan royals.

They initially bundled the Royals out for a mere 97, and then Brendon McCullum and Parthiv Patel took their team to an extraordinary 87 – 2 by the time the Power Play came to an end. Their fearless play helped them clinch the game in only 7.2 overs.

2: IPL 2015: 2.90 for 0, Chennai Super Kings vs. Mumbai Indians
The Chennai Super Kings had been chasing a fearsome target of 184 in their game against the Mumbai Indians, but openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum simply went berserk. Their powerful cuts, commanding pulls, and dominant smashes allowed them to take the Chennai Super Kings to 90 with no loss at all by the end of the Power Play overs. This significant start allowed the Chennai Super Kings to play the rest of the game relatively freely, eventually overhauling their target in a mere 16.4 overs.

1: IPL 2014: 100 for 2, Chennai Super Kings vs. Kings XI Punjab
Suresh Raina, the batsman for the Chennai Super Kings, almost handed the IPL its highest-ever Power Play score without any help at all. This high-octane clash saw them pitted against the Kings XI Punjab in the 2nd qualifying playoff of the IPL in 2014, with the Super Kings chasing an incredible 227 to win. Raina’s incredible counter-assault took fans’ breath away and took them to first place.

Playing his well-known cuts, drives, and heaves, Raina blazed to a sensational 87 off only 25 balls, and helped his team reach the incredible 100 – 2 score at the end of Power Play, the highest ever score to be made.

Test Cricket's 10K Club

In the just concluded test between Pakistan and the West Indies, Younis Khan became the 13th batsman in the world, and the first batsman from Pakistan, to reach the coveted feat of 10,000 test runs.
(The table shows the batsmen's stats after the test in which they reached 10,000 runs)

Here are some interesting facts and stats regarding the 13 members of the 10K Club:

  1. All of the 13 batsmen have captained their countries in test matches. All of them, besides Kallis, have been appointed full time test captains for their nations. Kallis filled in on 2 occasions.
  2. Younis, Lara, and Jayawardene were the only batsmen who had scored a triple century by the time they reached 10K. Besides Kallis, each one had scored a double hundred.
  3. Ricky Ponting had the most centuries (35) by the time he reached 10K. Younis, Sachin, and Gavaskar had 34 each.
  4. Younis Khan has the best 50 to 100 conversion ratio among the batsmen in the 10K club.
  5. Steve Waugh and Alastair Cook are the only batsmen that were not averaging 50 at the time of reaching 10K.
  6. Younis Khan's 70 sixes at the time of reaching 10K are the most sixes hit at the time of reaching 10K.
  7. Alastair Cook and Sunil Gavaskar are the only openers in the 10K club.
  8. Ricky Ponting had the best average on reaching 10K.
  9. Waugh, Cook, Border, Lara, and Ponting were all captaining their country when they reached 10K.
  10. Only Steve Waugh and Rahul Dravid scored hundreds in the innings they scored their 10,000th test run.
  11. Cook, Lara, Kallis, and Jayawardene are the only members of the 10K club who did not score at least a 50 in the test they reached 10K.
  12. Brian Lara reached 10K the fastest in terms of innings.
  13. Cook, Tendulkar, Jayawardene, and Younis Khan are the only ones who were part of the winning side in the test where they scored their 10,000th run.
  14. Younis Khan, at 39 (officially), is the oldest batsman to reach the landmark.
  15. Sunil Gavaskar reached 10K in his second last test match. Younis has done so in his third last.
There could not have been a better ambassador than Younis Khan from Pakistan in Test Cricket's 10K Club.

He is not more talented than the likes of Inzamam, Yousuf, and Miandad; however he is the most hardworking, determined, and dedicated batsman to ever play for Pakistan.

He is the best batsman to represent Pakistan in test cricket.

He is a Superstar!

He is King Khan!

Top de Villiers IPL Knocks

With AB De Villiers all set to return to play, let’s have a look at the Top 5 Knocks from the player known as Mr 360.

1. AB de Villiers Smacks the 5th Fastest Century in the History of the IPL
After Chris Gayle got knocked over for 6, AB, with 129 off 52, came in as he was impelled to bat during the Power Play overs. He managed to race to a 43-ball ton, with 10 fours and 12 sixes, and this also included the highest-ever IPL partnership of 229 with Virat Kohli, 109 off of 54 balls.

The knock went on to help his team post a total of 248 – 3, and encouraged the Royal Challengers Bangalore to go for a win of 144 runs over Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL –the largest victory in the  game’s history.

2. 105 (54) versus Chennai Super Kings in Durban in 2009
In his 2nd tournament, de Villiers made himself known to the world of the IPL by smashing his first ton. He hit 105 off of 54 balls in the game against the Chennai Super Kings, even though he was batting at an odd no. 3 position for the Delhi Daredevils. IPL betting sites, seeing that kind of action today, would have paid out a pretty penny to punters who had made the right choice of who to back.

After losing their openers with 8 runs on the board, Mr 360 raced to a 35-ball 50, with 1 four and 6 sixes, and topped this by managing to reach his 100 off of only 51 balls, made up of 5 fours and 6 sixes.  In the process he also set up two key partnerships in order to remain unbeaten on 105: 68 runs with Tillakaratne Dilshan, and a 74-run 5th-wicket partnership with Manoj Tiwary. Thanks to this, his team claimed a 9-run victory.

3. Sets His Highest-Ever T20 Score in 2015
A 215-run partnership with Kohli fired RCB up to a massive score of 234 in 20 overs, and this proved key to their victory of 39 runs. His final score of 133 not-out stands as the 3rd highest score in the history of the IPL, and the best de Villiers has ever had in the T20.

4. Heroic 89 in an Iconic Chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014
Chasing a total of 156, Gayle had give the Royal Challengers a good start by hitting a 19-ball 27, but, after his scalp the wickets just kept tumbling, with these including a duck from Kohli. De Villiers came in at no. 5 and hit one of his best innings, facing 41 balls to reach 89 runs that included 8 sixes and 6 fours, taking his team over the line with a ball to spare.

5. AB Saves the Day in 2016
Facing a target of 159, an incredible top-5 collapse saw the Royal Challengers break down to 29 – 5 in their qualifier against the Lions. With a place in the final available, de Villiers came in swinging, stepping up to the crease and smashing his team through to victory. He hit 79 balls off 47, with 10 to spare, and this was his 6th score of over 50 in the 2016 tournament, the season in which he scored more than any other.

These are just a few of the many incredible knocks de Villiers has had, and he looks set to continue to thrill IPL fans for a long time to come!

Take a look at the top IPL Captains who’ve enjoyed great success

Top 5 Most Successful Captains in IPL Cricket
The role of the captain, according to Steve Waugh, is to combine 10 individuals’ contrasting personalities and ensure they are all moving in the same direction, by treating them both equally and differently. This encompasses how important a good captain of any kind of sports team is, but particularly cricket.

Read on for a list of the top 5 captain’s throughout the IPL’s history.

Number 5: Shane Warne
Shane Warne, known as one of the most colourful cricketers ever, has stayed in the news, whether for sports achievements or other shenanigans. He is very often referred to as the best captain that Australian never had, and managed to lead Australia in 11 ODIs, while winning 10. His captaincy of the Rajasthan Royals has been heralded as nothing short of sublime, as he led the unfancied team to victory on several occasions.

Number 4: Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir’s stint as IPL captain began with the Delhi Daredevils in 2009, when he replaced Virender Sehwag and led the team to the South African semi-finals. In the following season, he became a full-time captain, but his true skills were only revealed when his move to the Kolkata Knight Riders was effected, where he managed to lead his team to 2 IPL titles in both 2012 and 2014. Cricket bets backing this gentleman’s team during this time would’ve seen a pretty penny returned!

Number 3: Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Cricket fans may be surprised that Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not feature as the number 1 most successful captain of IPL teams, and, truth be told, if overall impact was a factor then he undoubtedly would be. This, however, is not the criteria for this list, and so he ranks at number 3.
He has continued his success as the captain for the Chennai Super Kings, leading them to knockout phases in 8 successive seasons, and winning the tournament not once, but twice, in 2010 and 2011. He also had them as runners up a total of 4 times.

Number 2:  Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma became the Mumbai Indians captain when Ricky Ponting gave up the role in 2013. The leadership change impacted very positively on the team’s fortunes, and they won the title that year. A reasonable strike rate combined with 538 runs made Sharma Mumbai’s highest and 6th highest run-getter in that season and he led the Indians to a 2015 title as well.
The finals, against the Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens, saw Sharma manage a 26-ball 50, and he was certainly instrumental in Mumbai’s score of 202 runs in 20 overs.

Number 1: Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar’s name on the top of this list may surprise some, since he did not have a particularly memorable stint as captain of Team India. Numbers, however, do not lie, and Tendulkar’s win percentage of 58.82 makes him the single most successful IPL captain when one goes by victory percentage.

Tendulkar does not have the title of an IPL win as captain, but he has managed to lead his team to the finals, most notably in the 2010 season. Mumbai had to cede the finals to the Chennai Super Kings by 22 runs, in spite of Tendulkar’s 48 runs, and he was the 2010 IPL edition’s leading scorer overall, with 618 runs at a 47.53 average.

The greatest IPL catches in history revealed

The Top 5 Catches in IPL History
The Indian Premier League, or IPL, has certainly seen some incredible catches over the years, but these 5 stand out from the rest.

Ricky Ponting, April 2013
At 40 years of age, the former Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, demonstrated that he had not lost any of his agility when he made a spectacular catch at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In the Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils match he was the skipper for the former, and pulled off one of the IPL’s best-ever efforts in the field when he caught Unmukt Chand at cover, off Harbhajan Singh.

AB de Villiers, April 2010
2010 saw a youthful AB de Villiers as part of the Delhi Daredevils, and he managed to pull off one of the most magnificent catches ever seen at the boundary ropes in the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The catch occurred during the last stages of the game which Delhi was very comfortably winning.

Faf du Plessis, April 2015
South African born Faf du Plessis is well known for his accomplished antics on the field, and ranks as one of the greatest catchers in IPL history thanks to an exceptional feat during the 2015 IPL as a member of the Chennai Super Kings. It was the 12th match of the IPL 2015 season, and the Mumbai Indians were 6/1, Corey Anderson having been sent in.

Fans have seen their fair share of drama thanks to this player’s excellent antics, with many punters ruing the day they underestimated this world-class athlete when it came to placing IPL cricket bets!

Tim Southee and Karun Nair, April 2015
Tim Southee combined with Karun Nair to pull off a stunning catch for the Rajasthan Royals, and although the IPL of 2015 saw some incredible moments, none ranked as high as this relay. The Kings XI Punjab need just 33 to win from a measly 7 balls when George Bailey, the set batsman, fell victim to one of the cricket field’s most incredible combined fielding efforts.

Chris Lynn, April 2014
In a mighty effort to dismiss AB de Villiers, Chris Lynn managed an out-of-this-world catch. The game between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore was powerfully poised with the Royal Challengers needing 6 to win from 3 balls. They had the multi-talented AB de Villiers at the crease, effectively boosting their chances of crossing the line, and Vinay Kumar managed to bowl a lengthy delivery. The South African, in turn, flicked to deep mid-wicket, making room, and the ball sailed high –but not high enough.

Chris Lynn, the Australian batsman who replaced Morne Morkel for the Kolkata Knight Riders, slipped initially, but then soared high into the air, catching the ball, before falling to the ground. Thanks to the fact that Lynn arched his back, holding the ball in the air while he fell, he managed to miss the rope.

The way that Lynn managed to recover from his slip, holding on to the ball while incorporating an incredible awareness of the rope’s position makes this the finest catch that the IPL has ever seen. Had Lynn hit the ropes, his team would have lost the match, and this player more than deservedly walked away with the Man of the Match award thanks to his quick thinking.

Landmarks that Misbah and Younis will have their eyes on ...

After winning the T20 and ODI series against the West Indies emphatically, Pakistan's focus now shifts to the tests and the farewell of two Pakistani stalwarts. The thing is, Pakistan have never won a test series in the West Indies.

They have toured the West Indies 7 times in the past 60 years for a test series and their record is three draws and four losses. If there ever was a perfect time to set this record straight for Pakistan, it would be now.

What better farewell gift could there be for Misbah Ul Haq than becoming the first captain from Pakistan to win a test series in the West Indies. If Pakistan are able to do so, it would be another outstanding achievement in the long list of firsts that Misbah has produced in the past 7 years.

Misbah needs this win more than anyone else; especially following the unfortunate tours of Australia and New Zealand. His legacy demands a series win, plain and simple.

Besides focusing on a first ever series win, both Misbah and Younis Khan will also have one eye on a number of personal landmarks:
  1. Barring injury, Misbah will end his career having captained Pakistan in 56 tests and becoming the 9th most capped captain in the world and second most capped from the subcontinent after MS Dhoni.
  2. One win will give Misbah 25 test wins as captain, taking him past Alastair Cook. Three wins will take him past Mark Taylor and Michael Vaughan, and place him level with Sir Viv Richards, MS Dhoni, and Hansie Cronje.
  3. Younis Khan is 23 runs away from becoming the first batsman from Pakistan to score 10,000 runs in test cricket.
  4. Younis Khan requires another 146 runs to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's test runs tally of 10,122 and become the 5th most prolific test batsman from the Subcontinent.
  5. Younis Khan needs one more century to become the first batsman from Pakistan to score 35 test centuries. If he scores two centuries he will join Rahul Dravid with 36 test centuries, the 5th most in the world and 3rd most by a batsman from the subcontinent.
  6. Misbah is 49 runs away from completing 5,000 runs in test cricket. He will become the 7th batsman from Pakistan to score 5,000 test runs.
  7. Misbah requires another 112 runs to surpass Zaheer Abbas' runs tally of 5,062 to become the 6th highest run scorer from Pakistan in tests.
  8. Misbah is 47 runs away from becoming the first batsman from Pakistan to score 4,000 test runs as captain. Another 4 runs will take Misbah past Michael Clarke's runs tally of 3,946 and place him at 9th for most runs as test captain.
Pakistan will start the test series as firm favorites, a fact worth paying attention to when betting on cricket match. If you plan to get in on some action and spice up your viewing experience with a wager, you should seek out more information on the series’ odds.

Take a glance at the 888Sport information page as well and see if you can choose yourself a bookmaker that provides you the betting edge you need with a free bet or enhanced odds offer. If you are betting, might as well cash in on a new-player promotion bookies are so keen to offer.

One you have placed your bet (that is, if you have placed your bet), sit back and enjoy the show as it is set to be quite an interesting test series, especially given the above milestones that can potentially be achieved by Misbah and Younis, Pakistan's two superstars whose careers will come to a halt after three more tests.

All About the IPL Fantasy League and how to get Involved

The IPL Fantasy League is part of the genre of Fantasy Sports; an online game where you create a virtual team comprised of real cricket players who score points depending on how they perform in matches taking place in real life. In order to win a tournament, you will be working towards getting the most points and the number 1 ranking on the leaderboard.

Understanding the IPL Fantasy League

Essentially, the IPL Fantasy League allows those who love the game of cricket to enjoy the experience of owning a team firsthand. The rules and regulations which govern the Fantasy League are very similar to those which real-life team owners have to follow, and the virtual world has created a lot of interest amongst online gamers, with the Fantasy League growing steadily in popularity.

How the Fantasy League Works
Perhaps the most important piece of advice when it comes to playing the IPL Fantasy League is that you know the rules. If you are in any way unsure as to how the point system works, what the budget constraints are, and how teams are formed, then you will always lag behind all the other players.

Fantasy League teams are not as easy to make as it may seem, and one of the biggest reasons for this is the budget constraints you deal with. You will not simply be allowed to select all of the cricket players you want, and then relax while they win all of the matches. The best recommendation is to choose some of the bigger players, and combine these with some younger ones, who will be priced lower, and mix them up as well as you can.

Players who enjoy the IPL Fantasy League may well find that their increased knowledge helps them when it comes to placing bets at cricket betting sites online, as they will have a better understanding of current stats and situations.

When it comes to team formations, it is common knowledge that 2 batsmen, 2 bowlers, 1 all-rounder and 1 wicket-keeper is the rule of thumb, so your task should be focused on the remaining 5 players. Good guidance to follow is that you select as many all-rounders as you can, and, when this isn’t possible, try to focus on impact players who will be able to deliver points thanks to good strike rates or superior fielding capabilities.

How to Get Involved

You can participate in online IPL Fantasy League games by registering for a new account with a site that offers this type of activity. You will be asked to provide information which may include your email address, full name, a password for your new account, your date of birth, your gender, where you reside, and your most well-liked franchisee.

You may also be able to register for, and create an account, via your Facebook profile, and this option will usually require you to grant access to the IPL Fantasy League site to store and make use of your full name, email address, date of birth, gender, and country of residence from the social-networking account. Once you have set up an account you can start building your Fantasy League dream team and see whether you can enjoy success as a cricketing pro.

Hasan Ali Rapidly Rising...

While Babar Azam has been taking huge strides and making headlines as a batsman, Hasan Ali,also in his early twenties, has been making waves for Pakistan as a bowler.

23-year old Hasan Ali has been exceptional with the white ball in the 15 ODIs he has played for Pakistan. He has been a bit on the expensive side with an economy rate of 5.92, but he has picked up wickets in heaps and he has picked them fast.

Last night against the West Indies, he picked up his second 5 wicket haul in ODIs taking his tally to 28 wickets in only 15 ODIs.

He has bowled a mere 120 odd overs for these wickets, which basically means that he has been picking up a wicket every 4 overs or so.

That is quick!

BEST STRIKE RATE EVER FOR PAKISTAN

In only 15 ODIs, Hasan has achieved the best ever strike rate for a pace bowler for Pakistan in ODIs - 26.4; i.e. a wicket every four and a half overs.

Like Babar, he too has a long way to go to be considered in the same league as Pakistan's best, however his start has been quite amazing.

He has already picked up two 5 wicket hauls, half as many as Shoaib Akhtar did in his entire ODI career, and a third of what Wasim Akram achieved in 20 years.

ONE OF THE BEST STRIKE RATES IN THE WORLD

Among all international pace bowlers (excluding associate nations), Hasan's strike rate of 26.4 is 9th best, and he is the only Pakistani in the top 10 best strike rates in ODIs.

He has surpassed a number of quality bowlers to be make this list and it will take one hell of a sustained high level performance to maintain this strike rate.

He has surprised many with his pace, and now he is surprising us all with his wicket taking skills.

ONE OF THE BEST AVERAGES FOR PAKISTAN

Pakistan has not found the same caliber of pace bowlers as Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

Shoaib Akhtar promised much, but injuries never left him. Mohammad Asif could have reached the same league, but his vices got the best of him. Mohammad Aamer made the world take notice with his scintillating first year in international cricket, but he does not look like the bowler he did in 2010.

It has been 14 years now since Wasim and Waqar last played for Pakistan. In these 14 years, Pakistan has fielded a number of pace bowlers, with only a handful that made a lasting impression.

Hasan Ali is one of them. In his short career he has shown immense wicket taking ability, which has resulted in him having the second best bowing average for Pakistan since the retirement of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

You would have never guessed that Aizaz Cheema would be at the top of this list!

*                                  *                                  *

Hasan Ali is not in the same league as the two Ws, nor is he a special talent like Asif or Aamer. But he is capable of producing fiery spells. surprising batsmen, and picking up wickets quicker than most bowlers. He has the ability to constantly provide breakthroughs and is a major asset in limited overs format.

Hasan Ali is also a special one who needs to be handled with care by the Pakistan team management.

I believe a mistake has already been committed by including him in the test squad. I hope it is a one off, I hope he does not play any of the tests, and I hope the selectors can safeguard his future by telling him that they want him to focus on leading Pakistan's limited overs pace attacks.

How Special is Babar Azam?

With over 1,000 ODI runs, 5 ODI centuries in 25 innings, an average of 56.78, and a strike rate of 90.50 - at the age of 22 - I think extremely special.

BEST EVER ODI AVERAGE

That average of 56.78 is the second best average ever in ODI cricket; and if you exclude associate nations, then Babar Azam currently has the best ever ODI average of all time.

Among these 10 batsmen with the best ODI averages of all time, Babar has the third best strike rate, behind the magnificent AB de Villiers and very marginally behind the great Virat Kohli.

For Babar to be spoken of in the same breath as ABD and Kohli, he will have to sustain this performance and average for at least another 100 ODIs.

With the start he has achieved, I do not have any doubts that in about 5 years time, Babar's ODI record will be very similar to that of ABD, Kohli, and Amla.

PHENOMENAL AT NUMBER 3

Out of his 25 ODI innings, Babar has played nine at number three and all of his 5 ODI centuries have come from that position.

Why Pakistan even bothers to change his batting order around is beyond me.

He has been phenomenal at number 3. His average of 95.62 at number 3 is the current best ODI average ever from that position.

Among the 10 batsmen with the best ODI averages at number 3, only ABD and MS Dhoni have a better strike rate than Babar Azam's.

I'll say it again that in order to be considered one of the best alongside Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root and other star performers at number 3 in ODIs, Babar will have to sustain this performance for another 30-40 odd ODIs.

Pakistan's team management will have to play its part though, by sustaining with him at number 3.

BEST SRIKE RATE EVER FOR PAKISTAN

There are only two batsmen in all of Pakistan who have a better strike rate than Babar Azam in ODIs - the one and only, Shahid Afridi, and the one who may never play again, Sharjeel Khan.

Never has Pakistan had a batsman like Babar, who scores freely and consistently. Not since Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar, and a young Inzamam Ul Haq anyway.

But even those names (besides Zaheer Abbas) do not feature in the top 10 batting strike rates for Pakistan.

*                  *                   *

This is just the start of what looks like a promising career. Earlier this year, Babar joined the likes of Sir Viv Richards, KP, Trott, and de Kock as the fastest batsmen to reach 1,000 runs in ODIs. It took them just 21 innings. No one has for their faster.

Here's hoping that Babar Azam continues in the same vein and that he continues to build on this exceptional platform by scoring runs and runs and more runs.

For this batsman is special and Pakistan have rarely seen better.

Thank you Younis, Thank you Misbah ...

I will definitely do a numbers post on these two extremely prolific batsmen, but that will have to wait till the three tests against the West Indies are over.

There will be a few more records and much else to celebrate then - Pakistan's first 10K in tests, Pakistan's first 4K as Test captain, and quite possibly Pakistan's first 35th test ton.

Numbers however, will only tell half the story in the case of these two stalwarts. Their services to Pakistan's test cricket over the past decade are incomparable.

Both Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq will be missed immensely, not only for the runs they produce in the middle, but more so for their respective contributions off the field, in the dressing room, and on the other players.

YOUNIS KHAN

He is Pakistan's very own King Khan.

Besides claiming every single test batting record there is to claim for Pakistan, Younis has had an impact like no other on an entire generation of batsmen.

He has been a major guiding force for many young batsmen, an instrumental contributor to the success of these batsmen, and a true role model that the likes of Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Ahmed Shehzad, Shan Masood all look up to.

Younis has built partnerships with each one of the above mentioned batsmen that have taken Pakistan to great achievements. There is a reason why no one else from Pakistan has been a part of as many century partnerships in tests than Younis Khan has. He scores runs himself and he enables his partner to accumulate plenty of runs as well.

Each of Azhar Ali, Shan Masood, Asad Shafiq, Fawad Alam, and Umar Akmal will tell you a story about how Younis Khan helped them reach their first test hundred. Many others will tell you how easy Younis makes it for his partners while he is at the crease. Pakistan's coaches will tell you how hardworking and dedicated Younis Khan is. Pakistan's test captains will tell you the impact Younis Khan has on the dressing room.

It is these things that cannot be measured by numbers that Younis Khan will be mostly remembered for.

MISBAH UL HAQ

Captain Fantastic!

From taking on the reigns of Pakistan's test team in 2010 following the spot fixing scandal to breaking all the captaincy records there are to break for Pakistan, Misbah Ul Haq has been an exceptional leader.

He has taken Pakistan's test cricket to heights never witnessed before. He took the team out of turmoil, instilled belief and confidence in them, developed a culture like never before, and achieved unprecedented results.

Misbah's achievements as a leader in whites are incomparable.

Never has Pakistan's test cricket seen such continuity in selection and such stability in a batting order over 6-7 years; credit for all of this is to Misbah who has led these men with aplomb.

Enabled by Misbah, the team has broken records, the batsmen have broken records, and Misbah himself has broken records. Such is the greatness of this test team that the records they have established since 2010 will probably remain Pakistan's records for a long time to come.

These two stalwarts leave behind them a great legacy. They have enriched Pakistan's test cricket like never before; win or lose in the West Indies, the three tests should be a celebration of their services to Pakistan, of their contributions to test cricket, and of the great memories they will leave behind as the curtains close on their grand careers.

It will be very hard for Pakistan to move on from Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq.

Make your pitch on this post...
