The Ashes Prediction Competition

For once it is not Sportsfreak running a tipping competition.

This time its a couple of South Africans, who for some reason are interested in the Ashes. I presume to witness Australia's demise.

After all their coach, Mickey, gave the English some tips. So did Buchanan, but so what right? Australia are not losing the Ashes!

That's my tip anyway.

The competition is being run by The Commentary Position, a South African blog operated by Darren and Roscoe.

Their tips, or predictions like they call it, are here.

So far its them, Jrod, Damith, Brian Carpenter, and I who are competing.

Yep, Damith and I are up against each other again after our all famous Pakistan-Sri Lanka debate over at BCC!

Here are Damith's picks for the Ashes.

And here are mine.

THE FORMALITIES

Most Runs Overall (15) --> Michael Hussey, yeah I think he's back to his robotic ways. Everyone will pick Phil Hughes I'm sure.
Most Runs England (10) --> Ravi Bopara, any doubts?
Most Runs Australia (10) --> Phil Hughes, I'm hedging!
Most Wickets Overall (15) --> Mitchell Johnson, he will kill them English.
Most Wickets England (10) --> Graeme Swann, the pacers are useless.
Most Wickets Australia (10) --> Mitchell Johnson, don't need a hedge here.
Best Tosser (captain who wins the most tosses) (5) --> Andrew Strauss, he has to win something!
Man of the Series (10) --> Mitchell Johnson & Andrew Strauss, in England there are always 2 men of the series.
1st Test Result (10) --> England
2nd Test Result (10) --> Australia
3rd Test Result (10) --> Australia
4th Test Result (10) --> Australia
5th Test Result (10) --> Australia
Overall series result (15) --> Australia 4-1.

THE TRIVIALITIES

Number of Tests that lose overs to rain (note, not bad light) (5) ---> 3
Number of Tests that Flintoff will be able to manage (5) ---> 2
Number of Tests won by an innings (5) ---> 2
Number of Tests played by McDonald (5) ---> zero
Number of Tests played by Lee (5) ---> zero

If you're interested in taking part, you can still do it; however you will start from -1. Still worth it I believe.

Hop on over to The Commentary Position and give them your entry.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka becomes Q vs Damith on BCC!

The mercurial Pakistan takes on the resurgent Sri Lanka tomorrow in the Group F clash of the World T20 Super 8s.

Will Afridi and Ajmal trump the Lankans?

Or will Murali and Mendis have the better of the Pakistanis?

In this battle, I believe the team that plays the opposition's spinners better will come out on top!

I'm backing Pakistan for obvious reasons; on the other hand, we have good friend and fellow blogger, Damith, who is backing Sri Lanka, also for obvious reasons!

Damith and I have clashed and we have clashed on Indian territory over at Bored Cricket Crazy Indians!

Go check it out.

Damith first posted "Questions for Q".

Then bored member, John from the Island Express, posted the "Terms of the Engagement".

Following that, I came out with my "Answers and some Questions too".

The Battle has begun and it will continue on BCC!

So make sure you follow it.

For the record, we have a Pakistani battling a Sri Lankan, in a battle that will be moderated by an Indian - what subcontinental love we have here!

The moderator - Homer of 2cents fame!

Damith's Gesture for a HERO!

Mehar Mohammad Khalil.

Heard the name?

He was the driver of the bus, which was carrying the Sri Lankan players that got attacked.

Mehar has been hailed as the saviour of the Lankan players' lives by all the players.

My Sri Lankan friend, Damith of Fly Slip, has initiated a fund, the aim of which is to raise money though contributions from fans and present the collections to Mehar.

The target is US $1,000. $155 have already been raised.

Damith is aiming to present the $1000 gift to Mehar when he arrives in Sri Lanka as a guest of the Sri Lankan Government.

None other than King Sanga will present the gift to Mehar.

So hop over to Fly Slip and make your contribution and hail a HERO.

Younis Khan's 22 & a Dig at Damith...

I know both my posts today have been regarding Younis Khan, but I couldn't leave it at that.

There has been 24 hours of play in this test match and Younis has been on the field for 22 of those hours.

I'm sure Shahrukh Khan will have no objection now to calling him King Khan.

Before I sign off for the day, I just want to point out one more thing.

Damith, my Sri Lankan friend over at Flyslip, pointed out that Pakistan's spinners bowled 82 overs between them for 310 runs and picked up 5 wickets.

That doesn't look all that bad now Damith, does it?

Your Murali and Splendid Mendis: 115 overs, 300 runs, and 2 wickets.

Not bad I say from Danish and Malik.

And you can't really compare Danish and Malik, who is merely a part timer, to the leading wicket taker in the world and Splendid, can you?
